Moving A 120 Tonne Moreton Bay Fig – Tree Transplanting Victoria
Ficus macrophylla, commonly known as the Moreton Bay fig, is a large evergreen banyan tree of the Moraceae family that is a native of most of Australia’s eastern coast.
This one, with its 8 metre square root ball weighed in at 120 tonnes and was moved just a short distance within the Melbourne Zoo’s newly refurbished Lion enclosure.
The entire relocation was managed by David Caldecott from Tree Transplanting Victoria.
