SMOKE GETS IN YOUR FACE
It is true that smoking not only damages your health but your looks too. Here are the signs
- prominent lines and wrinkles that extend from the corners of the eyes, while cheeks may also appear sunken
- skin becomes less elastic, causing the underlying bone structure of the face to become more visible.
- complexion may take on a mottled, slightly reddened, orange and purple appearance due to poor blood circulation and inadequate oxygen reaching the skin
- complexion may also develop a grey, unnatural pallor because it is more atrophied than a non-smoker’s skin
There are many effects from smoking. Long term effects include: Lung cancer, emphasema, heart disease, and ulcers. Short term effects include: coughing, shortness of breath, and premature signs of aging such as wrinkles. Those facts are not surprising, because when you smoke, you are inhaling over 2,000 known cancer-causing chemicals. Lung cancer is presently the number one killer in both men and women, and it is estimated that by the year 2000, approximatly over 300,000 people will die from lung cancer in the United States. These are a few facts that will have you thinking about the effects of smoking.
Effects of Smoking
Cigarette smoking is the # 1 cause of cancer death in men.
Current male smokers over age 35 are almost 10 times more likely to die of lung disease.
Lung Cancer has now surpassed breast cancer as the leading cause of cancer deaths among woman.
Current female smokers aged 35 and older are more than 10 times as likely to die from emphysema or chronic bronchitis than non-smoking females.
Americans are starting to smoke at a younger age, (would you believe 5!), especially young girls.
Pregnant smokers have higher rates of miscarriage, stillbirths and babies who are born too soon. More of their babies die soon after birth from crib death than newborns of nonsmoking mothers.
Stop Smoking
There are immediate benefits from quitting smoking. Within eight hours after you quit, the level of dangerous carbon monoxide gas in the blood returns to normal. Also, within the next 24 hours, your chances of having a heart attack begin to decrease dramatically. And just think of the money you'll be saving with the cost of cigarettes going up all the time.
